There are different levels of objection to a new gTLD

• For Legal Rights Objections (“pre-delegation”) ICANN has assigned WIPO. The cases have been published, amongst others German Merck KGaA against Merck from the USA. WIPO handles objections based on trademark registrations.
• The “The International Center of Expertise of the International Chamber of Commerce” is responsible for Limited Public Interest, Community Objections
• The International Centre for Dispute Resolution has been appointed to handle String Confusion Objections

The deadline for formal objections expired on 13th March 2013. The objections are being published under this Link on the ICANN web site.

For “post-delegation” objections ICANN and the trademark community have developed the “Uniform Rapid Suspension System” (URS) which is a shorter and leyy expensive version of the UDRP. One of the first URS providers is NAF. ICANN is looking to expand the list of URS providers. UDRP remains a way of enforcing rights for any new gTLD.
